Deputy Minister of Culture for Press and Information during a meeting held at the Press Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Azeri officials aimed at boosting media cooperation between Tehran and Baku.
According to Public Relations and Information Center of Ministry of Culture and Islamic guidance Mr. Mohammad Soltani Far in his meeting with Head of Press Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Aflatoon Amashov who is also a lawmaker called for efforts by Iranian and Azeri journalists to reflect the truth and realities about two the countries and described the role of media as very vital for reflecting shared history and culture of these two neighboring countries.
Mr. Soltani Far by referring to extensive cultural and historical commonalities between Iran and Republic of Azerbaijan, elaborated on the ways for promotion Tehran- Baku relations on media and other sectors.
Talking about advance made by Iran in media sector he said currently more than 160 foreign media have representative office in Iran and underlined his country’s interest to further strengthen its media cooperation with the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The head of Press Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan for his part said the signed MoU emphasizes the need for improvement of media ties between the two countries adding that based on this document Tehran and Baku will have a chance to expand their long term media cooperation.
During the meeting which was also attended by Iranian Ambassador to Baku and other high ranking officials of two countries it was said that signing of media cooperation agreement is of great importance for world community. Based on the agreement, following measures will be taken by two countries:
1- Appropriate measures will be taken for training of journalists and exchange of training courses.
2- Holding multilateral conferences for studying new political topics by media people.
3- Reactivation of previously signed MoU.
4- Preparation for establishing media Unions or other non-governmental entities at neighboring provinces of two countries.
5- To review the possibility of presence of some none governmental Iranian news outlets in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
