Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, speaking to reporters in Rasht airport on Wednesday Jan.13, 2016 said Iran had cancelled Minor Hajj, before Saudi government severing its diplomatic relations with Iran and the ban on Minor Hajj will continue.
According to Pubic Relations and Information Center of Ministry of Culture, he said we have plenty of time till the Major Haj Pilgrimage season and should wait and see our relations with Saudi Arabia how develops. He added that in case the situation improves then it might become possible to send our pilgrims to Mecca, otherwise even the Major Hajj rituals might be cancelled.
Talking about government’s policy aimed at promoting freedom of speech, Mr. Ali Jannati said government is pursuing freedom of speech in academic centers and society must be open to people to speak their mind.
He added that in the past, so many books were banned from publication for unfounded reasons but such books have been allowed to be published under the present government.
Mr. Jannati said during the past year, more than 8000 new title of books have been published in the country and authors and writhers are hopeful their works could be published.
Mr. Hossein Entezami, Deputy Culture Minister for Press and Information is accompanying Mr. Jannati in his inspection tour of Gilan Province in northern Iran.
