Minister of Culture meets Italian Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage
Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance in a meeting with visiting Italian Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage called for expansion of cultural diplomacy. According to Public Relations and Information Center of Ministry of Culture, Mr. Reza Salehi Amiri while briefing the Italian official about mandates and activities of his ministry said Iran is the leading country in the region and important player in film industry in international arena. Mr. Salehi Amiri said Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance attaches great importance to cultural diplomacy and Iranian Cultural and Islamic Communication Organization with 83 representative offices across the world, is promoting this part of diplomacy of Iranian government. He went on to say that currently some 8600 newspapers and other printing magazines and periodical are published in Iran. Mr. Salehi Amiri called for boosting of cultural ties between Tehran and Rome and said two countries should sign a new memorandum of understanding for expansion of their cultural cooperation. Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance said Iran is a safe and secure country and this is not accidental but is due to a strategic approach adding that we are against any form of extremism in the region and the world. The Italian Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage and Cultural and Tourism Affairs, while recalling amicable relations between the two nations said shared cultural values necessitates expansion of relations between the two countries. Mr. Antimo Cesaro also called for deepening of cultural diplomacy and said media outlets can play an important role on this respect adding that Iranian and Italian cinema are well known in the world and participation of Italy as a special gust of Tehran International Book Fair is a turning point in two countries' cultural relations. The Italian official said setting up Italian cultural representative office in Tehran can contribute greatly to strengthening of cultural relations between Tehran and Rome. Mr. Cesaro said his nation has a special view about Iran and is aware of the internal security of your country and this has led to increased number of Italian tourists who choose Iran as their travel destination.
