Foreign press and media department

As one of the cornerstones of deputy office in press and publicity affairs of ministry of culture and Islamic guidance foreign press and media department give service to foreign reporters reviews foreign publications and produces translations of their articles. This department consists of various divisions supervised by the director general's two assistants one in cultural affairs and the other in political affairs. the names and specifications of these divisions are as follows:

  This division reviews and translates foreign newspapers, magazines and periodicals published in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Arabic, Russian , Japanese and Turkish. It is divided into sections specializing in geographical areas including America and Europe, Asia and Oceania, Africa and Middle East and the Arab world.
     Materials translated by experts often contain most important analyses, world events and Iran's domestic and foreign policy issues. The translations made from the most important materials are published in the department's daily or weekly bulletin.

This bank is a center of keeping , processing and selling of the translated materials and offers foreign dailies, weeklies and other periodicals to people interested in using them .
with its unique system of data processing as a most valuable data-base in Iran it will be able to provide researchers according to the area of their interests with its information.

Note:
The computer network in this department contains already 52000 translated articles derived from 300 foreign publication titles. these are available to scholars and researchers.

How to use the data bank:
Students scholars and other people interested in using this bank will be able on producing letters of introduction or ID cards to use unclassified materials . The foreign publications available in the bank. The government departments and centers will also have the right to use other documents.
Membership fees are 7500 rials per month for university students and 15000 rials for other people .The costs of making copies and receiving translated materials will be separately paid by users

   In this division the important materials and articles produced in various divisions of the department are printed in various bulletins which are published in limited copies and distributed to the most important decision-making government centers.
   The names of these bulletins and the number of the issues of each of them published during 1996 are as follows:
1- World press review and world and Iran events                  52    issues
2- A selection of daily articles                                                150 issues
3- Special bulletins of selected editorials                                15    issues

4- The appraisal of the reflection of the Islamic republic of Iran's events
in foreign press 8 issues

This division is in charge of providing foreign correspondents upon their arrival in Iran with permits enabling them to receive press visas and arranging schedules and appointments for their visits to certain places and people.
In order to make such arrangements foreign reporters division is consistently in contact with various government centers and institutions.
In case of reporters' request it also supplies them with guides who will serve as interpreters and advisers during their visits.
The other functions of this division is to supervise the activities of all news agencies in Iran and to offer them needed services and produce press cards for their correspondents. Nearly 70 news agencies have already offices in Iran and in sending news and information to their respective countries.
